Best Regional Product Launch Award from EMEA Finance for maib’s gama cards range
Investor relations release, 4 February 2026
Maib received the EMEA Finance award for the best product launch in Central and Eastern Europe for its maib gama card range. This recognition reflects the bank’s capacity to introduce scalable retail products, accelerate customer monetization, and strengthen its competitive leadership in Moldova’s payments and cards market. Maib was also recognized as The Best Bank in Moldova.
A product built for scalable growth, engagement, and monetization
Launched in 2020 in partnership with Mastercard, maib gama is a lifestyle-oriented payment card designed for mass retail consumers, with a particular focus on digitally active and purchase-intensive segments. Gama range includes gama premium, gama start, gama universal and gama junior (for kids and teens).
The product has attractive consumer features:
- Cashback mechanisms integrated directly into customer spending behavior;
- Seamless digital onboarding through the maibank app;
- A wide partner ecosystem of 1,300+ partners and 4,500+ locations that rewards usage through discounts and loyalty incentives;
- Innovative incentives such as lounge access and fast track for premium cards and rewards for the junior line with cashback of up to 15%.
These levers position maib gama as the most connected card in Moldova. Through its retailer partnerships, maib drives stronger customer engagement and higher transaction volumes, while also stimulating demand for its POS solutions for retailers. The gama card line has become a meaningful catalyst for the growth of cashless payments in the country.
By the end of Q4 2025, maib’s cards portfolio surpassed 1.5 million cards with maib gama representing roughly 18% of all maib cards. This reflects a high penetration rate and growing relevance within the bank’s overall retail strategy.
Aliona Stratan, First Deputy Chairwoman in charge of Retail division, commented:
“The maib gama cards have played a central role in reshaping our retail portfolio and strengthening customer engagement. Their performance highlights the effectiveness of our product development model and our commitment to delivering high-quality digital banking experiences. Being recognized with the EMEA Finance Regional Award confirms our ability to design and scale products that contribute meaningfully to sustainable growth and shareholder value.”
Irina Untila, Mastercard country manager in Moldova, said:
“We congratulate maib on this international recognition, which confirms the bank’s ability to develop innovative products with lasting market impact. Together, we have built more than just a card — we have created a platform that connects customers to a broad ecosystem of benefits and accelerates digital payments adoption. Gama demonstrates the value of customer-centric solutions that drive usage, strengthen loyalty, and support sustainable growth”
Superior customer engagement and above-market spending
Customer engagement is a core driver of value creation within the gama product line:
- Gama users demonstrate above-market spending levels, benefiting from cashback incentives and the extensive partner ecosystem. Maib leads the market in spending activity per active card. Gama users monthly spend is nearly double the national average of 3,682 MDL according to NBM database in Q3 2025.
- Higher spending translates into increased transaction volumes, interchange revenues, and loyalty-driven retention, strengthening maib’s recurring revenue profile.
- Cashless transactions represent over 75% of total spending and tokenized payments account for 56% (mobile integrated payments). These metrics highlight gama’s role as a high-usage, high-engagement product.
The product’s engagement metrics validate its positioning within a fast-evolving payments market and indicate strong product–market alignment.
Ecosystem advantage driven by market-leading acquiring network
Maib’s acquiring business provides a structural competitive advantage:
- In Q3 2025, maib achieved a POS& E-comm market share by number registered 43.7% with an increase of +0.3 p.p. compared to Q2 2025 (latest available data).
- Retailers benefit from maib’s extensive POS& E-comm network (over 25,000 terminals in Q4 2025), enhancing acceptance and incentivizing customer usage of gama cards.
- High acceptance footprint reinforces network effects, supporting higher usage intensity and long-term customer value.
